Maasai Boy Before the Storm
First in a four part artistic series, Faces of Globalization.
This numbered print is a limited edition of Chantal Nicolet's 2006 painting of the enigmatic Maasai Boy whose smile and piercing eyes belie the drought through which his people have lived the last three years. We met "the boy" trekking in the Rift Valley, 2004. His gift to us was laughter at our fear of the oncoming rain and some directions back to our tents. From this gift of a few minutes, came one of the most moving faces of the hope and despair gripping Africa.
It is hope for which these one hundred, limited edition, giclée prints stand. Should you wish to be a part of our projects, you can purchase a lasting memory of the children who live in the hearts and minds of those who travel with Humanican. The prints are $300 Canadian dollars and are available for viewing by appointment. Please contact to inquire. All profits from the sale of these prints through our website are donated to Humanican on behalf of the artist.

The Artist
Chantal Nicolet has been painting in Canada and Switzerland for the last ten years. Her series "Faces of Globalization" reflects her new passion for the peoples of the developing world. Her vision marks the implicit hope in those who have faced tragedy and found the fortitude to survive. The paintings honour courageous lives lived in the face of poverty. Her work questions whether the font of happiness is life that consumes unsustainably or whether a life lived on nature's terms is more fulfilling. Thus, the question of the artist is the same one her subjects must answer.
